You can download the free printable Valentine’s Day scattergories at the bottom of this post!

Supplies Needed

For this game you will need the following supplies:

  • Valentine’s Day scattergories (download link is available at the bottom of the post).
  • Home printer (you can also print the game at your local print shop).
  • White printer paper or preferably cardstock.
  • Scissors or a paper cutter.
  • A timer (you can use the one on your phone or a clock).
  • Pens.

How to prepare the game

  1. Download and print the game.

At the bottom of this post, you will find the link to download the game. The file is saved in a PDF format.

There are two 5″x7″ game cards on one page. You will need one card per player.

Print the game on white paper or cardstock. Cardstock will look more professional and be more durable.

  1. Cut out the cards.

Using scissors or a paper trimmer cut out the game cards along the grey cutting lines.

  1. Give each player a copy of the game and a pen and have fun!

How to play the game

The objective of the game is to earn the most points by coming up with words that start with the same letter and fall into a specific category.

You will play this game in four rounds – one round for each letter of the word “LOVE”.

Begin the first round. Set a timer for 3-5 minutes. During this time players will fill in the first column with words that start with the letter “L” and fall into the corresponding categories. All ten categories are listed below the lines.

For example, the first category is “Sweet treat”, so players need to think of a sweet treat, that starts with the letter “L”. Then they move to the second category.

Players can skip categories and return to them, if they have time left.

Once the time stops, everyone stops writing.

Taking turns, players read their answers out loud and compare them with the group. Players have the option to challenge the answers, if they think it is not acceptable. Cross out the words, that multiple players have written down, so only unique and accepted answers stay on the list.

Move to the next round. Start the timer again and fill out the second column, that starts with the letter “O”.

Once all four rounds have been played, players count the points.

Players get one point for each unique answer – one point for each word on the list, that is not crossed out. Players get extra points for using the key letter more than once as a first letter in your answer, when answering with proper names or titles.

The player, who has the most unique answers wins the game.
